Chinese telecom operator China Mobile recently launched a new purchase tender for six million TD-SCDMA (Time Division-Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access) phones, in a bid to boost its market presence in China, the chinabye.com reported on October 8. Of the six million TD-SCDMA phones, 3.6 million of which will be entry-level phone models, while the remaining 2.4 million will be mid-range Smartphone models, according to the same source.

 

Meanwhile, Nokia recently announced that the company will deepen its collaboration with China Mobile, under which Nokia will produce more mobile phones using China Mobile's own-developed TD-SCDMA technology, with an aim to make a comeback into the Chinese market, the China Daily reported. Nokia stated that the company already has a R&D team based in Beijing, with more 100 employees focusing on the development of TD-SCDMA phones, and the new TD-SCDMA phone models manufactured by Nokia are projected to hit the market in 2011, according again to the China Daily.

 

Aside from Nokia, which has four TD-SCDMA phone models currently available in the Chinese market, Samsung, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, and RIM (Research in Motion) also have devoted themselves in the development of TD-SCDMA phones in order to grab a higher market share. Samsung, in particular, has nine TD-SCDMA phone models currently available in China, claiming to have constituted 48.2% of the total TD-SCDMA phones sold in China.
